DALIAN. Weak demand is causing prices for Chinese pumpkin seeds to fall. GWS kernels could become scarce on the EU market due to pesticide problems.

Hardly any support for prices

Prices for Chinese pumpkin seeds have fallen noticeably over the past two weeks, mainly due to low demand. Local traders report that there is hardly any buying interest, especially on the domestic market, neither for roasted kernels nor for the baking industry. Export demand looks a little better, but as the new crop is large and there are still carry-over stocks from the old crop, there are more than enough goods available and prices are under pressure accordingly. A large part of the new crop is currently still being stored by farmers
