Saffron: crop forecast retained

TEHRAN. With harvesting nearly complete crop forecasts are still upbeat for saffron in Iran.

No negative news

Harvesting is coming to an end in Iran with no negative news emerging. Official estimates predict a crop size of 350-400 mt. Last year’s drought-ridden crop only ranged at 300-350 mt. Welcome news is that yields are supposed to jump back to 9 kg/ha in the northeastern provinces of Khorasan Razavi, North and South Khorasan, whereas they declined to 3.5 kg/ha last year. Reports state that yields range at 6 kg/ha in the central province of Isfahan.
