Saffron: devoid of reality

TEHRAN/BRUSSELS. While Iran’s Ministry of Agriculture has recently updated the export and production figures for saffron, statements are devoid of any reference to disruptions. EU imports have surged by 31% in terms of value.

Without providing any reference to supply chain disruption caused by the tensions in West Asia or the impact of the climate crisis on production the Ministry of Agriculture simply stated that Iran exported 25 mt of saffron worth USD 22 million in the first two months of the Iranian calendar year, which started on 21 March, as local news agencies report.
