NEW DELHI. The uptick in demand from China and the tender have only given the sesame seed market in India a temporary boost.

Prices remains under pressure

The large summer crop is pressurising the market in India. Although demand revived in China and suppliers in India won most bids for the tender from South Korea, the uptick was only short-lived. Prices have now declined again. At USD 1,310/mt CIF Hamburg, unhulled sesame seeds range at prices not seen in a long time. Hulled sesame seeds are also trading at the multi year-low of USD 1,590/mt CIF. Black sesame seeds have also declined by around USD 30/mt since last week. Hulled organic sesame seeds are tradign at EUR 1,835/mt DDP Germany and natural organic sesame seeds at EUR 1,620/kg DDP Germany. Prices in Africa are even lower than in the local markets in India, which is pormpted traders to buy addition volumes in Africa. Any rise in prices is out of the question for the time being.
