Sesame seeds: crop damage in India

NEW DELHI. Late rainfall has damaged the Indian sesame seed crop. However, the full extent of the damage remains to be seen. Nevertheless, prices are holding firm for the time being.

Market players must wait and see

The final fields are being sown with sesame seeds for this year’s Kharif crop in India. By 18 September, farmers had sown sesame seeds across 1.108 million hectares; according to official data from the Unified Portal of Agricultural Statistics, the figure at this time last year was 979,000 hectares.
