NEW DELHI/BRUSSELS. New crop estimates for sesame seeds have emerged in Gujarat, India. Harvesting is well underway in Mozambique and Tanzania. India is gaining traction in the EU.

Lower production in India

While earlier production estimates stood at 130,000 mt for sesame seeds in the Indian state of Gujarat, anticipation now is that the summer crop will rather range at 100,000-120,000 mt. Unfavourable weather conditions have driven this decline.

So far, around 15,000-18,000 mt have arrived in the market. In Gujarat, daily arrivals of white sesame ranges at 40,000-50,000 bags of 40 kg each. In West Bengal, the arrival of the new crop has started. The quality is very good and expectation is that arrivals will increase in the coming days
