Sesame seeds: new crop now available

NEW DELHI/ABUJA. The first sesame seed deliveries of the Kharif crop are arriving on Indian trading markets. Harvesting is also underway in Nigeria. Unfavourable weather conditions are said to have significantly reduced yields in China.

Shipments from Madhya Pradesh arrive

Sesame seed shipments of the Kharif crop are gradually arriving on Indian trade markets from the growing regions. Sesame seeds from Madhya Pradesh were the first to arrive this year, while shipments from Uttar Pradesh are not expected in the trade centres until the last week of October. Harvesting is also underway in Gujarat and Rajasthan, where shipments are expected to begin shortly before or after Diwali; the Hindu festival of lights will be celebrated on 20 October this year.
