Sesame seeds: discouraging estimates in Pakistan

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. India has witnessed a decline in the export value for sesame seeds. Prospects are far from encouraging for the new crop in Pakistan.

Decline in export earnings in India

Initial estimates predicted a crop of 130,000 mt in Gujarat, currenty a smaller crop of 100,000-120,000 mt is, however, anticipated. So far, around 25,000-30,000 mt of the summer crop have arrived in the market. In Gujarat, the arrival of white sesame ranges between 50,000-55,000 bags (40 kg) per day. In West Bengal, the arrival of new sesame seeds has started. The quality is very good, and it is expected that arrivals will increase in the coming days.
