Sesame seeds: EU imports down by 17%

NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD. China's imports from Pakistan have risen by 87%. India expects low crop yields. Meanwhile, sesame seed imports into the EU have declined by 17%.

Little movement in India

Indian sesame seed farmers sowed a total of 1.043 million hectares nationwide for the kharif crop, compared to 1.096 million hectares in the previous year. However, unfavourable weather conditions could result in significantly lower yields. Nevertheless, the Indian sesame seed market remains largely stable. Sufficient availability and lower prices on the international market are ensuring that prices for Indian sesame seeds also remain at their current low level.
