Sesame seeds: exports up in India

NEW DELHI/SEOUL. While India won the lion's share of bids for Korean tenders last year, biding is underway for the most recent tender. The EU has already rejected twenty shipments this year. In Burkina Faso the campaign for sesame seeds is nearing the end.

India supplies 25% of shipments to Korea

South Korea issued a tender over 12,000 mt on 20 February and bidding started on 28 February. The coountry's sesame seed imports increased significantly by 26% in 2024, rising from 71,595 mt in 2023 to 90,460 mt in 2024. However, the average import price declined slightly, from USD 2,258/mt in 2023 to USD 2,150/mt in 2024. China remained the top supplier, although its exports to South Korea declined by 23%, from 32,289 mt to 25,017 mt.
