Sesame seeds: foreign exchange trade causes prices to rise

NEW DELHI/ABUJA. Increased export prices have brought the sesame seed trade in Nigeria to a temporary standstill. In the Indian market, traders are stocking up for the upcoming public holidays in January.

Domestic demand should stabilise prices

The last sesame seed tender did little to support prices in the Indian sesame market, with Indian exporters winning a total of 1,800 mt of the 6,300 mt put out to bid. Due to the generally rather weak demand, export prices have declined again this week and are currently at a level of USD 2,195/mt CIF Hamburg for hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity.
