Sesame seeds: growing demand for organic quality

NEW DELHI. Farmers in the Indian state of Gujarat are said to have expanded their acreage for the 2025 summer crop by 7.8%. However, market players are expecting a slight decline in yields. Meanwhile, there is a growing demand for organic sesame seeds.

Slight increase in production in Gujarat

The result of the current sesame seed tender will be announced at the beginning of next week. South Korea wants to purchase a total of 13,000 mt of sesame seeds with this tender.

Indian sesame farmers have sown an estimated 124,232 hectares for the summer crop in Gujarat, an increase of 7.8% compared to last year. Due to a slight decline in yields, market players are assuming that the crop will not increase to the same extent, but production is still expected to grow by a good 4%.
