Sesame seeds: US imports up significantly

NEW DELHI/BRASÍLIA. Prices on the Indian sesame seed market are holding steady for the time being despite increased availability. In Brazil, the prospects for the new season are good and the USA is importing significantly more sesame seeds than last year.

Stable export prices

Although foreign buyers are very active – for example, an order for 10,000 mt was concluded with a South Korean importer – domestic prices on the Indian sesame seed market remain subdued. Market players attribute this mainly to the increased supply due to the summer crop. However, the recent rains in Gujarat, which are rather atypical for this time of year, have led to concerns about quality.
