NEW DELHI/DAKAR. After rainfall severely affected the Indian sesame seed crop, cultivation is to be expanded in the Rabi season. In Chad, the new crop will soon be available. Sesame farmers in Senegal are striving to further expand the sector.

Larger acreage in 2026?

Sesame seeds of varying quality continue to be traded in the major trading markets in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, while deliveries in eastern and southern Andhra Pradesh are almost complete and red sesame seeds are only being traded in small quantities. Due to the smaller crop this autumn, there is already a shortage of premium goods on the Indian sesame seed market. Overall, trading activity remains moderate. Hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity, are currently offered at a level of USD 1,680/mt FOB India.
