Sesame seeds: Indian export prices down by up to 25%

NEW DELHI/N'DJAMENA. The high competitive pressure on the international market means that prices for Indian sesame seeds are significantly lower than a year ago. In Chad, stocks in the growing regions are running low.

High competitive pressure

Despite complaints from Indian market players that demand for sesame seeds is low, a total of 255,878 mt was shipped overseas in 2024, an increase of 13.9% compared to the previous year. However, prices for white sesame seeds have fallen by 20-25% year-on-year despite the smaller crop. In February 2024, natural sesame seeds were still being traded for USD 1,930/mt FOB India, but offers for this variety are currently at USD 1,550/mt FOB.
