ASUNCIÓN/NEW DELHI. Higher yields and competitive prices enabled sesame seed exporters from Paraguay to increase their exports by 50%. Prices on the Indian market rose slightly in expectation of a new sesame seed tender.

Paraguay increased exports by 50%

Sesame seed exports from Paraguay reached a volume of 42,929 mt in 2025, up around 50% from 28,677 mt in 2024. The export value amounted to approximately USD 59 million, representing an increase of 12% despite a 25% decline in average prices. The main buyers were Mexico with 12,533 mt and Japan with 10,080 mt, which together accounted for more than half of total exports. China (+834% to 5,100 mt) and Turkey (+275% to 3,994 mt) also increased their imports. Growth in Mexico was driven by higher volumes at lower prices (USD 1,174/mt),
