Sesame seeds: prices in India continue to fall

NEW DELHI/SEOUL. Despite the smaller crop, sesame seed prices on the Indian market remain under pressure. South Korea's sesame seed imports are at a similar level to last year, as are those of Japan.

Low demand creates price pressure

Sesame sowing in the current Rabi season has declined significantly across India. Nevertheless, prices remain largely stable at a low level as supply continues to be abundant and demand from the edible oil industry remains weak. Hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity, are currently offered at a level of USD 1,580/mt FOB India.

In Rajasthan, arrivals have fallen to around 2,000–2,500 bags per week. White sesame seeds are trading there at prices of around USD 123.5–128.0/quintal. In Gujarat, markets are reporting daily
