NEW DELHI. According to reports, the good summer crop is now to be followed by an equally good main crop, which caused Indian sesame farmers to increase the...

... acreage by 19%. Most of the winter crop is grown in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, followed by Gujarat and Rajasthan. Due to the persistent rainfall, the main crop in 2019 yielded only 300,000 metric tonnes.

However, it will take about two and a half months before the new crop is available on the market, and a lot can happen in the meantime. This week export prices fell again, but market players are hoping for an overall upward trend until the new crop is available. Shipments from African origins are seasonally declining and current estimates suggest that South Korea will enter the market again in August with a tender for 10,000 metric tonnes.

Hulled sesame seeds with a 99.95% purity are currently offered at USD 1,560 per kg CIF Hamburg and black sesame seeds, 99.95% went down to USD 2,090 per metric tonne this week - last year at this time prices ranged at USD 2,975 per metric tonne CIF Hamburg.
