NEW DELHI/ADDIS ABABA. In India, the sesame seed market remains largely firm. In Ethiopia, meanwhile, sowing for the new crop is imminent. South Korea’s imports have fallen slightly, while prices remain virtually stable.

Market remains firm in India

Sesame seed arrivals from the summer crop are continuing in the main growing regions. Market sentiment remains firm, as market players fear lower Kharif production, particularly for white sesame seeds, due to below-average rainfall and possible El Niño conditions. Stockists and wholesalers have stepped up their purchases to stock up on goods ahead of the new season. Gujarat continues to dominate market supply with 50,000-55,000 40-kg bags per day in the main markets of the Saurashtra region. Daily arrivals stand at 1,200-1,500 bag
