NEW DELHI/MAPUTO. In the Indian state of Gujarat, sesame farmers are busy sowing for the summer crop. In Mozambique, heavy tropical storms may have affected the sowing results.

Small lead in sowing

After Indian sesame seed exporters were able to secure a good portion of the last tender, prices have stabilised for the time being. Suppliers are stocking up on raw materials in order to be able to fulfil orders. Overall, however, the Indian sesame seed market remains quiet, with no major enquiries from the domestic or overseas markets. Hulled sesame seeds, 99.98% purity, are currently trading at a level of USD 1,870/mt CIF Hamburg.

Meanwhile, farmers are busy sowing for the summer crop, but it is still too early for reliable estimates.
