NEW DELHI/KHARTOUM. Nigeria emerged as the clear winner of South Korea’s latest sesame seed tender. India’s summer crop is expected to be smaller than last year’s. EU countries imported around 9% less sesame seeds.

Nigeria supplies more than a third

Nigeria has emerged as the clear winner of South Korea’s latest sesame seed tender. Of the total 6,000 mt of sesame seeds requested, the country was awarded the contract for around 2,400 mt. Suppliers from Mozambique are contributing 1,800 mt and exporters from Pakistan 1,200 mt. India accounts for 600 mt of sesame seeds. Shipments must arrive in South Korea by 15 June and 30 June respectively. The suppliers were granted the contract at prices ranging from USD 1,398 to 1,469/mt.
