Sesame seeds: tender leads to firmer prices in India

NEW DELHI/MAPUTO. Stable demand and the successful tender are bolstering sesame seed prices in India. In Mozambique, the new season has begun. In Tanzania, buyers’ and sellers’ price expectations are diverging.

Firmer prices in India

The summer harvest is progressing well in India. Increasingly larger deliveries are arriving at the trading markets. A total of 8,702 mt of sesame seeds from the new crop was recorded in the markets this week, with the majority of 7,519 mt coming from Gujarat. High-quality white sesame seeds were traded at prices of INR 11,000-13,250/quintal (USD 1,287-1,550/mt), and high-quality black sesame seeds at prices of INR 17,625-18,000/quintal (USD 2,061-2,105/mt).
