Shocking number of pepper imports

Pepper imports shoot up by twice the number

Indian imports normally hovered around 20'000 tonnes per annum in recent years but in 2017 an estimation of 40'000 tons of pepper have landed in India though various sources. And not all of the imports were from legal sources. 

This hammered the prices and led the Centre to imposing a fix import pricing of approximately $8 per kg on the imports of pepper in a hope that it will stop but this led to illegal imports of pepper in the country.
