Spice market update: catastrophic crop to boost Indian exports

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin seeds

Cumin depicted an upcurve in the first two weeks of December, but fell again towards the end of the year. Reason for this price movement were arrivals, which initially ranged in at 7,000-8,000 bags, but suddenly tripled to 25,000-30,000 bags. The influx was only partly caused by farmers with stockists mainly bringing their volumes to the market. They would not liquidate their stocks, if there was any chance of a sudden price jump.

In addition, prices have slumped by nearly 20% in the past twelve months as carry-over stocks exceeded 2.5 million mt

LIMA/BRUSSELS. Although Peruvian ginger exports in 2025 were higher in volume than in the previous year, the export value declined due to lower prices. EU ginger imports, meanwhile, rose by almost 11%.
