Cumin

The new cumin crop is entering the Indian markets in large quantities, putting further pressure on already favourable prices. Although farmers are not currently expecting price increases, they are bringing their produce to market as they urgently need cash. The Holi festival, which is being celebrated this week, brings trade to a standstill for a few days. Cumin prices are receiving some support from good demand from Bangladesh, but even this cannot prevent a decline. BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
