The expectation of a smaller crop for the 2020/21 season is supporting prices, which are thus experiencing a slight upward trend. India's cumin production is expected to decline by 11% to around 478,500 mt, according to market players, primarily due to reduced acreage in Rajasthan and Gujarat. New arrivals could cause short-term pressure on prices, but traders expect shipments to decline again in about a month, so prices should tend to rise in the coming weeks. Grade A cumin currently costs USD 2,106/mt FOB India.

TEHRAN. Saffron corms are grown in Iran’s South Khorasan Province from early August until late September. Harvesting takes place in in mid-October through to early December. Prospects are not exactly encouraging this year as farmers are not quite as enthusiastic. Exports have become next to impossible due to the impact of the coronavirus and tougher international standards.
