Spice market update: farmers prompted to sow more cumin

GUJARAT. Weekly monitoring with the latest market information from India on cumin, coriander and turmeric, chilli, black pepper and cardamom as well as a price list for more than 70 products.

Cumin

Prices continue to decline in India's cumin market. A grade cumin with a 99% purity is trading a further USD 40/mt lower than last week at USD 2,081/mt FOB India. Above average rainfall is expetcted to prompt farmers to step up sowing for the next crop. Trading is, however, rather subdued. While overseas buyers are not showing much interest, rain has prevented farmers and traders from travelling to the local mandis.

TEHRAN. In Iran, the price trends for nuts and dried fruits differ. While almonds and pistachios are showing mixed tendencies, the prices for barberries, dates and dried figs and raisins are showing clear directions. Saffron has also witnessed a sharp turnaround since last year.
