Spice market update: production decline supports pepper prices

Cumin

The Indian cumin market has recently shown robust price development with local increases of 4-5% within three weeks. The main driver is uncertainty about the sowing date and future acreage. In Rajasthan, traders expect production to remain at the level of the last two years, as cumin is considered an optimal crop there. In Gujarat, however, high soil moisture and unfavourable conditions are leading to forecasts of 25-30% lower yields. Due to rising prices, export demand has largely come to a standstill, so the situation currently seems a little confusing. Comp
