According to Indian market players, farmers' cumin stocks are higher than expected; almost 40% of the crop is said to still be in storage, and continuous arrivals on the markets are putting some pressure on spot market prices. In addition, prices for Chinese cumin are very competitive, as they are around USD 50-60/mt lower than Indian goods on the global market. This is affecting export demand, but domestic buying interest among spice companies, as well as retailers and wholesalers, is also lower than usual. BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
