GUJARAT. Exchange rate fluctuations and drought like conditions are raising concerns in India. In addition, the pepper suppliers are demanding …

… unrealistic prices, which their customers refuse to pay.

Cumin seeds

An announcement of the government to provide irrigation in Gujarat caused prices to drop at the beginning of the week. In addition, the stronger rupee limited demand from China and Bangladesh. Later in the week, it, however, turned out that the water provided for irrigation is insufficient with many areas in Gujarat suffering from severe shortages of water. The prospects for sowing are anything but promising. Cumin, Grade A, 99% is trading for 2.860 USD/mt FOB.

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
