Spices: Dramatic decline in production in India

GUJARAT. Chilli production in India has almost dropped by half and the coriander crop is way below expectations.

Cumin

Arrivals are decreasing, stocks are running low and demand is subdued. Most buyers are waiting for the new crop. Arrivals are set to increase in two weeks’ time. The prices for cumin, grade A, 99% have dropped to 3,065 USD/mt FOB this week.

Coriander

Subdued market activities have caused the prices for coriander, Eagle 5% split to stabilise at 925 USD/mt FOB. Arrivals from Guna and Rajkot are starting to increase. Due to the smaller acreage production is currently estimated at 280,000-300,000 mt. Last year’s product

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
