Spices: Pepper dealers are exposed

GUJARAT. Buyers are holding back on orders for Indian pepper to put the price under pressure. At the same time importers are selling off their purchases from Vietnam.

Cumin
There is a lack of demand in the Indian spice market, both domestically and abroad. At the same time, goods from the new harvest are being delivered to the spot markets, which is why prices are coming under pressure. Grade A cumin, 99% purity, fell by 115 EUR to 2,047 EUR / mt FOB this week. The supplies are currently arriving primarily from Gujarat and are of good quality. In Rajasthan, farmers are expected to start harvesting next week.

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
