Sugar: Disappointing EU exports

WASHINGTON, D.C./BRUSSELS. While the USA is aiming for a record production of beet sugar, the EU recorded a considerable drop in exports in 2017.

 

Record production in the USA

At the start of March, beet sugar production was largely completed in the USA. According to USDA estimates, an absolute record production of 4.67 million mt will be achieved in the current season. Processors have gained a relatively high amount of sucrose from the beets this season. The beet roots on the fields benefited from the cold winter weather and the cool temperatures.
