Sugar: EU sugar production to increase by 4%

FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS. At 1.67 million ha, the area under cultivation was 4% smaller than in the previous year. Among other things, the farmers in France...

... have sown 30,000 ha less with sugar beets. Only in Poland was the sugarbeet cultivation increased by 2%. With an average yield of 74.9 mt/ha, the result would be 125 million mt of sugar beets. The Südzucker Group also reports that their area under cultivation for the new campaign was reduced to 391,100 hectares compared with the previous year. The Group's latest press release also states that sowing conditions were generally good, with cool temperatures, especially at night, but delayed plant growth until early May.
