LONDON/FRANKFURT. This year’s crop is a total disaster. The situation is so bad that British Sugar can no longer provide any offers. Market players in Germany are also confronted with high prices.

 

UK crop is a total disaster

This year’s sugar beets by no means suffice for production. British Sugar has now capped all offers. Marker players are now hoping for the weather to improve. If conditions get better it may be possible to prevent a complete write off. This, however, is an unlikely event and the full extent of damages will become evident towards the end of November.

The high world market prices pose an additional problem as imports, which could ease the situation, are not considered an alternative option. Production declines h
