Sugar: Rapid price fall in Germany

FRANKFURT. The trading prices have fallen to a record low in Germany. The global market paints quite a different picture.

 

Low level in Germany

The discontinuing of the sugar quota and excess production have led to a plunge in sugar prices. In the middle of May, the DDP Germany prices for granulated sugar, EC Cat. II, medium-grained, still amounted to 0.69 EUR/kg. At the beginning of the month, they had already dropped to 0.49 EUR/kg. Now, sugar is traded for an absolute record-low of 0.40–0.42 EUR/kg DDP Germany. For larger orders, the prices are even lower, at 0.38 EUR/kg DDP Germany.
