MOSCOW. Russia produced more than 7 million tonnes of sugar in 2019. This has prompted a surge in shipments. Exporters are reaping large porfits.

Enormous export revenues

Data presented by Soyuzrossakhar states that production exceeds 7 million tonnes in Russia in 2019. This has spurred a rise in exports as Russia shipped 585,000 tonnes worth USD 200 million. The record in sugar beet production is prompted by favourable weather conditions. Beet sugar production has, in fact, doubled over the last ten years and sugar bags even had to be stored in the open air last year as there was not enough storage facilities. As much as forty plants are still busy processing sugar.
