Sugar: slump in production

KIEV. The Ministry of Agriculture in the Ukraine states that as little as 9.8 million metric tonnes of sugar beets were harvested by 12 December. This is a 27.4% decline over last year. As much as 13.5 million metric tonnes were harvested in December 2018.

Difficult sugar year

At 22.3 mt/ha average yields also range lower than last year’s record 24.7 mt/ha. Beet sugar production ranges at 1.36 million metric tonnes so far, which is a 37% decline over last year as sugar production ranged at 2.14 million metric tonnes in December 2018.
