Sugar: surplus stocks undermine market prices

... 3.86 million metric tonnes In Germany in December. This is a decline of nearly 100,000 metric tonnes on 2018/2019 and of 580,000 metric tonnes since 2017/2018. The decline is mainly driven by the lower sugar content in the beets (-1.72% to 17.61%). Even the 7% rise in sugar beet production to 25.16 million metric tonnes failed to compensate for the reduced sugar content.
