QINGDAO. Quality is an issue with the new crop arriving in China. Low prices also present a risk for sultanas.

Quality not up to scratch

Although new crop arrivals have picked up in China in recent weeks, local suppliers are not quite satisfied with the quality as the sugar content and flavour are not up to scratch. Expectation, however, is that the quality of arrivals will improve as of mid-August. This is also not the only reason why local traders and exporters are currently only buying limited volumes. Issue is that overseas demand is low as importers are closely monitoring what turn the market will take in Turkey before deciding on purchases in August and September.
