SOFIA/BUENOS AIRES. The upcoming Orthodox Easter celebrations are leading to reduced trading activity. Prices remain largely stable. Sunflower seed shipments from Argentina to the EU remain at a high level.

Sluggish market

High prices and the upcoming Easter holidays are causing sluggish trading activity across much of the Orthodox-dominated Eastern European sunflower seed market. Some market players have already taken a few days off. Consequently, prices are currently stable and stand at EUR 1,050/mt FCA for bakery kernels from Bulgaria, as was the case last week.

Meanwhile, sowing continues to progress. In Ukraine, 18,300 ha had been sown with sunflowers by the start of this week.
