SOFIA/KYIV. High prices are causing sluggish trading on the sunflower seed market. Broken seeds are currently relatively cheap. Ukrainian farmers continue to struggle with harvest delays.

Tough trading

Disappointing crop results and high prices continue to dampen trading activity in the Eastern European sunflower seed market. Many buyers are drawing on existing contracts that they were able to conclude at even lower prices. Demand remains moderate, and if prices remain at their current level, market players do not expect trading to pick up again anytime soon. Prices continue to fluctuate, but are generally at a similar level to recent weeks. Hulled sunflower kernels, bakery, are currently trading at EUR 1,070/mt DDP Germany.
