Sunflower seeds: Coceral cuts EU crop forecast

SOFIA/CHISINAU. Experts at Coceral have adjusted crop estimates for the EU sunflower seed production. Meanwhile, Moldova has assured that transit would not be affected by the ban on sunflower seed imports from Ukraine.

10% difference compared to last year

Coceral has adjusted its forecast for EU sunflower seeds in 2023 downwards. In early summer, the estimates were still at 10.832 million mt, but in the meantime the experts are only reckoning 10.367 million mt - which would still be an increase of almost 10% compared to last year. The main producing countries, Romania and Hungary, are expected to increase their production by 12% and 59% respectively, and France is also expected to increase its yield by 12% to 1.997 million mt.
