SOFIA/KYIV. Even if the results this year are disappointing, at least the harvesting process itself is progressing well in n both Russia and Ukraine. Meanwhile, the experts at Coceral have updated their forecast for the EU crop.

Harvests are progressing well

Sunny weather in the second half of September favoured rapid progress in harvesting work, after the sunflower seed harvest had already started two weeks earlier than last year. At 2.431 million hectares, around half of the sunflower seed fields have now been harvested, with production totalling 4.89 million mt to date. This means that the average yield has risen slightly and currently stands at 2.01 mt/ha, although this result would have to improve significantly in order to fulfil the forecast of 11.8-2.5 million mt.
