SOFIA/BUENOS AIRES. Coceral expects EU sunflower seed production to rise by a good 10% in 2026. The Bulgarian market is plagued by conflicting demands. EU imports are exceeding last year’s levels.

Positive crop expectations

Coceral’s experts published their forecast for EU sunflower seed production in 2026 this week. A number of adjustments have been made compared to the initial estimate published back in December 2025. As a result, the crop forecast of 9.489 million mt is around 4% lower than initially expected, though this would still represent a 10.4% increase on the previous year.
