Sunflower seeds: new crop weighs on prices in China

SOFIA/DALIAN. In China the new crop is arriving and demand is high for sunflower seeds. The European Commission has once again revised the production estimates downwards.

EU crop below five-year average

Harvesting is still in full swing in Ukraine with 3.3 million ha completed last week and preliminary production ranging at 6.6 million mt. Estimates predict a crop size of 11.8-12.5 million mt.

The European Commission has again reduced the crop estimates in the September report. EU production is now only expected to reach 9.5 million mt, which is 3% down on last year and 2% below the five-year moving average of 9.7 million mt.
