Sunflower seeds: cultivation of black seeds increases

SOFIA. The sunflower seed market has been characterised by much uncertainty this season. Again and again there were strongly divergent reports from Bulgaria about the sowing progress, which at best can probably be classified as subjective regional perception.

Sowing should now be completed everywhere, as it is now too late to sow further fields and even if not all planned areas could be fully cultivated, it can be reckoned that the cultivated area should have reached about the size of last year, according to a market player. The updated forecast for the 2021 EU sunflower seed crop is currently 10.668 million mt, which would be up 20% from last year, according to Eurostat.
