Sunflower seeds: first estimates for the 2025/2026 crop

SOFIA/KYIV. While the crop results for the 2024/2025 season have now largely been finalized after frequent corrections, the first experts are now giving their estimates for EU sunflower seed production in 2025/2026.

EU crop to remain below 10 million mt in 2025

The 2024/2025 season held significant yield losses and production declines in store for many growing countries. In its December report, the European Commission once again reduced the EU crop estimate slightly by 0.2% to 8.048 million mt. Compared to the previous year, the deficit would thus amount to -17.9%, after main producing countries such as Hungary (-12.9% to 1.715 million mt), France (-18% to 1.619 mt), Bulgaria (-18.6% to 1.437 million mt) and Romania (-38.4% to 1.242 million mt) suffered heavy losses.
