SOFIA/DALIAN. Sowing has begun in European growing countries. Official estimates suggest a rise of around 5% in the EU sunflower seed crop. Demand on the Chinese market is lower than expected.

Record crop in 2026?

Farmers in European growing countries are gradually beginning to sow seeds for the 2026 sunflower seed production. In Ukraine, growers in the Rivne Oblast were the first to start sowing sunflower seeds this year. Around 1,200 ha have been sown so far, and unofficial estimates suggest a 5–20% increase in acreage, depending on the region. The sowing campaign is also getting underway in EU countries such as Bulgaria.

According to the latest report from the European Commission, the EU-wide acreage for 2026/2027 is estimated at 4.92 mil
