Sunflower seeds: EU crop better than expected

SOFIA/DALIAN. The European Commission has once again raised its crop forecast for the EU sunflower seed crop. Prices are holding steady at their current level. In China, buyers are awaiting the arrival of the new crop.

Sunflower seed crop 14% larger than last year

After the European Commission had reduced its forecast for the 2026 EU sunflower seed crop in its previous two reports for two months running, the September report features another upward revision. The August figures indicated a total crop of 9.448 million mt, whereas production is now estimated at as much as 9.674 million mt – which would represent a year-on-year increase of 14.2%.
